A Supreme Court Justice should be honest, truthful and follow the law. They should not be working for a particular party. Something that we do not have today with the conservative judges on the court. Thanks Ari for your great coverage of such a historical week.🙏

She needs to know the law, know the constitution, be a critical thinker, be open minded. All of which Ketanji has in spades. I am praying for her and our country. Thanks Ari.

There are many necessary credentials but experience, open mindedness and remaining apolitical are ones I feel that are extremely important for any judge to have. Judge Jackson has all of these and so much more. That she will not get 100 yeah's shows that the vast majority of the GOP senators lack 2 of the credentials I mentioned: open mindedness and being apolitical (with decisions like this).

Most important quality- humility. Humility assumes empathy towards others, a lack of arrogance, and fairness in application of the law. No agenda, politics, or personal opinion. From what I’ve read about Ketanji Brown Jackson, humility is her North Star.

Must have an agile mind. Must be able to understand both sides of an issue and then apply the law.

A great Supreme Court Justice needs to understand fully and follow faithfully the concepts of "We the People" and "Liberty and Justice for All"

Happy Fri-YAY🙂 Yes indeed, Ari…what a week, eh? Putin’s war on Ukraine is quite scary and uncalled for.

Thanks for your newsletter and also keeping us informed on The Beat.

I can see the excitement of you and Press Secretary Jen Psaki from the pictures that were posted…it looks like you two read the same memo on wearing blue suits😃 (BTW, you look good in blue suit👍🏽)

I thought that Biden’s SOTU speech was very good.

I am definitely excited that Biden nominated an African American woman for the U.S. Supreme Court Justice…it was way too long overdue!

She is definitely more than qualified for the job.

Mitch McConnell cannot change the rules this time…Ha😆

Judge Ketanji Brown-Jackson should be confirmed as soon as possible (I hope…fingers crossed 🤞🏽)

What do you think is the most important quality for a Supreme Court Justice?

I will say being fair, having integrity and thinking about how the decisions made affect Americans.

Have a nice and restful weekend, Ari and Cheers 🥂

Ari, a few articles ago, you wrote about courage. It’s the first quality I believe a Supreme Court Justice should have. I’d toss in sound interpretation of laws; being of great character, and a mixture of empathy and independence. I’d bottled them as a novelty for this Republican Court, with directions of application(s) for use-recognizing some needing more than others.

Not exactly answering your question but I think that her experience as a public defender is crucial. Most judges come from the other table. I am concerned that the Supremes are a Harvard/Yale club, but the fact that she is not your typical member of that club works in her favor. The domination of the highest court by graduates of two schools is slightly ameliorated by her minority status. I hope she cruises through confirmation.

I believe the Supreme Court should mirror our country’s population. It is about time that a Black woman sits on the bench bringing her life education not just academic education. For me her professional experience as a public defender is as important as her skin pigmentation with its cultural ramifications that might give her greater insight into the outcomes of Court decisions. I believe our constitution was designed to be a living document that reflects and changes with new knowledge and awareness of cultural evolution. Sounds lofty but justices need to reflect our current world. I am thrilled with this nominee.

I believe any Supreme Court nominee should have allegiance to the LAW & legal precedent Not to any political party! She is immensely qualified without any doubt & as a woman I am very excited about her nomination. As an American I am equally so.

She needs to be open minded, knowledgeable in all areas of this position, honest and leave political bias out of any decisions, stuck with proven facts. She has much experience going for her. A great pick.

Honesty and I believe there must be an understanding of governance in a democracy and experience with both the judicial process as well as defense. Honesty to me precludes being able to emphasize and relate to the world at large If your honest you may need to recognize we are no longer living in the 50s mentality as obviously many of the current justices are mired in 🙏☮️

More than anything, I think a Supreme Court justice needs to be able to leave their own personal beliefs at home. Every time.

A Supreme Court Justice , besides education, experience, a good mind, etc., should be non-political. More than I ever remember, the Court seems more congressional that judicial.
