You reported that Manhattan DA and NY AG have thrown in together on trump investigations. Curious about the extent of cooperation among the jurisdictions pursuing criminal investigations - Fulton County, DC, Feds, et al.
I appreciate your clear-concise-correct reporting but I am neutral on this. We have a grossly unfair legal system. Anyone who doubts this, I tell them to follow me through a week of my volunteer work and listen to the stories I hear. Being white and/or wealthy gives that slice of our society an unfair advantage. I learn a great deal from you, even more when you have Neal on. Joyce is great too though I do not remember her on your show. Keep up the great reporting and explanations of the positive and negative.
Ari, I can only say thank you for breaking down the legal process, to layman's English. I am back in the saddle again, with eyes wide open, learning how the legal system works. You are the best.
I’m preparing myself to be disappointed by an anticlimactic outcome in this case—not because I think Cy Vance’s case is weak, but because the toddler in me wants a big dramatic fall for Donald Trump. That’s not how the law works, nor should it. This may result in mild embarrassment (as far as Trump is capable of it) or annoyance, but we’re not going to see him perp-walked to the pokey for the rest of his days. It’s still historic and precedent-setting, and that’s going to have to be enough.
More than anything, I want to know WHY NYAG and SDNY didn't make a move DECADES ago. Trump.org didn't start doing crooked stuff five years ago! If Weisselberg et al have been crooked for decades, where were NY authorities then? Why have they let trump and his spawn off the hook all these years? Had they looked into all his crooked endeavors years ago maybe we would not have had to suffer his presidency!
According to the indictment this has been happening for 15 years. They were investigating him for the last three years, but were unable to get hold of his taxes. This year, Vance finally got them.
To be honest, I am not sure that this crime alone would be enough to raise a lot of red flags for the DA (my uneducated guess). To take this further, there are reports they are looking at bank fraud as well. To me, this is what James was referring to about an ongoing investigation and this seems the greatest risk for Trump. Though Ari would have a much more informed and educated thought.
I want to know this as well. I have a good guess why, but I'd love for it to be explored. Eli brought this up a few weeks back on The Beat and I appreciate him for doing that.
Thank you for your research and writing. I am hoping to experience the exuberant happiness this could bring and soon. Sorry to be self protective however. Recall the Mueller report in its preparation. So many of our dear like minded were measuring chump for prison orange, and I worried, what if nothing happens. Well? I watched 95% and 80% of impeachments and knew the inevitable outcome. I am going to envelop this in positive thoughts however, we all need a big victorious See y'all at the finish line! Winners!
Regarding the charging criteria about 'has been doing lots of crime,' I am curious; does that include Conspiracy to Defraud the United States (18 USC § 371) ? From the US Dept. of Justice’s explanation of the statue on the website, that statue seems to be talking about Trump and the Trump organization.
The explanation of the statute’s text on www.justice.gov says this:
To conspire to defraud the United States means primarily to cheat the Government out of property or money, but it also means to interfere with or obstruct one of its lawful governmental functions by deceit, craft or trickery, or at least by means that are dishonest. It is not necessary that the Government shall be subjected to property or pecuniary loss by the fraud, but only that its legitimate official action and purpose shall be defeated by misrepresentation, chicane or the overreaching of those charged with carrying out the governmental intention.
Appreciate your precision and scope. Thank you.
Thank you

I’d really like to see the outcome for ALL of those involved in this activity, not just the corporation.

It all starts at the bottom of the chain, and works up to to “The Top Dog!” Throw them all in “The Pound!”
I agree with your last statement. Enough chasing all these “broad daylight criminals,” just charge the whole lot and be done.

Jeff,
I don't know if he will slime out of this one.
Sounds like an adventure novel. Hopefully a great ending (you know what I mean)!

It’s about time this is happening. Pray the suit is successful. How can someone who knows no rules be coated in Teflon.?
Love hearing this.
Thank you for doing what you do. I appreciate you and hate when I miss all the shows Saying that, he’s a master of his craft, the former president.
He seems to know all the loopholes on how to beat every system in the books.
