Maya Wiley Surges in NY Mayoral Poll, Eric Adams Leads

Wiley is on The Beat tonight

Early voting is underway for one of the toughest jobs in American politics, Mayor of New York, and here’s news from one of the final polls before Election Day on Tuesday:

Eric Adams held onto his front-runner position… with days to go before the primary, contenders Maya Wiley and Kathryn Garica have seen jumps in support… they pulled in 18% and 17% of the vote respectively.

Now as a reader, you might be interested to know:

So, please consider this interruption of my newsletter programming as a heads up for our “regularly scheduled programming”!

Many Beat viewers have told me - sometimes on the streets of New York - how much they appreciated Maya’s contributions as an analyst on The Beat. (She even made the experience part of her campaign announcement.)

It should be interesting to hear from her on the eve of this race. Earlier this week, we heard from the one person polling above her, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, and we’ve also featured several D.A. candidates.

Viewers can probably tell that I have tremendous respect for Maya’s insights and public service, while as an anchor, of course I’m neutral in the race and interviewing several competitors.  

Whoever wins will walk into both a huge job — and a national political platform. The last three New York mayors ran for President (de Blasio, Bloomberg and Giuliani).

Can you see Adams or Wiley winning and going on to run, or faring better than those predecessors?
