Of course the government was right to use Mr. Navarro's words against him. If someone kills another and says, "I did it," the government sure uses those words against him! This is no different. I think Mr. Navarro just needs to hire a good attorney and go sit quietly for a while in that big hole he's dug for himself.

As my oldest son…who was in the Air Force years ago and served in Intelligence listening to bad guys around the world…said, “Thank goodness for arrogant, stupid people. They lead us to the big fish.”

Expand full comment

Lol. "...arrogant, stupid people." So true.

Bannon did say he was going change things up and dismantle some agencies with Mr. T in office.

As a former deputy public defender, you would call Navarro a nightmare client! The uninformed and poorly educated that I represented would regularly admit wrong doing under police pressure but no one I ever represented ever squealed this much voluntarily! Peter’s arrogance and righteousness has put him in jeopardy and a no win situation!

Expand full comment

Hi George, you identified the problem and the dilemma the government finds itself: Two justice systems. The “uninformed and poorly educated…were UNDER POLICE PRESSURE.” Look what he admitted to in Ari’s interview. If he (and others) were treated, as were your clients, they’d all be in jail.

Expand full comment

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are saying, but, in this case, "uninformed and poorly educated" don't play. Peter Navarro was educated at HARVARD and TUFTS, for God's sake! He was neither poorly educated, nor uninformed. As I said above, perhaps "misinformed" is a better word. You seem to be classifying him as "uninformed and poorly educated," ergo, under police pressure to admit what he did during Ari's interview. I'm confused.

Expand full comment

😄Yes, Lori, you’re missing my point. The public defender spoke of HIS CLIENTS being uninformed and poorly educated, and that they confess under police pressure. I went on to say, Navarro exposed a lot in Ari’s interview, and that if he were treated like the defender’s clients and suffering police pressure (he wouldn’t have the luxury of ignoring subpoenas), and would probably be in jail. I’m aware of Navarro’s history, which is my point. Privileged and Entitled! I hope I clarified it.❤️

Expand full comment

I think, though, that Mr. Navarro will eventually be in jail. But...keep in mind that although Mr. Navarro "confessed" to a rather remarkable "crime" in his interview with Ari, FIRST the Justice Department has to RECOGNIZE that a crime has been committed. Mr. Navarro has neither been charged nor arrested. And, while Mr. Navarro may be "privileged" in terms of money and education, he is by no means "entitled."

Expand full comment

A rare bird with money and access to a president who doesn’t feel entitled…And no, he’s not charged, nor arrested—I believe we started there.

Expand full comment

I personally grew up "with money and access to a president" but have never once felt entitled. I still have $75k in student loans, have to pay my taxes, and have to license my (two indoor) cats like everyone else. I don't think we're all that rare.

Expand full comment

Twice. Twice he went on the show and squealed voluntarily. It's quite shocking to see anyone do this.

Expand full comment

I so agree about the "nightmare client" tag for Mr. Navarro. But, he is certainly not poorly educated, maybe not even "uninformed." Misinformed? Not too smart (despite his expensive education)? As a public defender, you would have no choice but to represent him were your number up; but, as a private attorney, would you take him on as a client? Maybe just because you like enormous challenges?

Expand full comment

I get what you're saying--you're not saying that Navarro is uninformed and uneducated--you were stating those are the types of people that you represented---you also said Navarro is an attorneys'worst nightmare!! I agree what a network he was/is

Hi Ari and Happy Hump day😃 I don’t know what MSNBC does for recognizing a job well done but you deserve an extra bonus or an award for exceptional journalism. I am so happy that someone in Congress tuned in to listening to that interview with Peter Navarro. In Peter Navarro’s brain, he already feels entitled, privileged and exempt from upholding the law. Above all, I feel like he completely forgot that you are a lawyer. I guess that he didn’t care and was spilling the beans left and right.

Do you think Congress was right to “use” Navarro’s statements against him? Yes they were right to use his words against him.

Do you think he should now cooperate with the investigation, and should he keep talking in public?

Yes, he has to cooperate with investigation, to explain what he knew about the coup plotting and the people that were involved

A smart person would stop talking but knowing and observing the people from the Trump administration, nah that is not their style. They are white privileged and they will keep talking.

Hopefully someone is taking notes of what they are saying to figure changes to make to prevent future coup/ coup plotting.

I keep thinking about that day, January 6th, the description of the coup that Peter described and what would have happened if this coup d’état was successful.

Have a nice day, Ari and keep doing what you do best…Cheers😃

Hi Sandra, you are absolutely correct. If only the people who can actually do something about this corrupt former administration would take action, we would have confidence that they will finally "Lock Them Up".

I cannot wait for the day the DOJ will take action. I just want this day to be real soon.

We all have watched for over 5 miserable years what this man and his minions have been doing to our country. Hope the DOJ is getting all their duckies in order to make sure they don't get away from accountability.🙏

Anbsolutely agree. Think the country needs to see accountability, starting with the DOJ, doing its job to start healing and rebuilding trust.

It was such a bizarre moment that I could not believe what I was hearing. Interesting that you said he must have forgotten that Ari was a lawyer. I think there was a clip somewhere where Navarro went on Bannon's show afterwards and he stated that Ari was a trial lawyer and you have to do this this and that with him because of it. Basically telling Navarro where he went wrong with Ari and I was thinking Bannon didn't do so great in his interview either. Maybe not on the level of Navarro just spilling it all. But a keen observer can still pull out the lies in his interview. I don't know, if I was anywhere near involved in a criminal investigation, the last place I'd go is on the news.

Expand full comment

I remember that clip too. I agree with your last statement. Obviously we all know that anyone from the Trump’s administration is not very smart. Let’s continue to follow this closely and see how it plays out

The Committee was absolutely correct and I loved when they asked for the "Media Clip" and there you were killing it with Mr. Navarro. Keep up the good work Ari.

Expand full comment

Thank goodness the committee is actually moving at a commendable speed considering the 'many strands' you allude to Ari. I usually mute guests like Navarro you interview but I was fascinated with how you kept corralling him in. I think we all know people who are so deluded with their askewed and altered grasp of reality that they loudly blather their falsehoods and ridiculousness. You were ready with the truth to counter his hyper speech. Thank goodness you used your attorney tools to lead him to his "confession". I have to hope that Garland and the DOJ are just keeping a low profile and will pounce when they have all the info they need. They should be grateful the 'committee' is doing the work they (and you) are doing.

Interesting he made it past your "mute" test, Peter. And thank you

Hi Peter, yes I would cringe every time a trumpster official came on , but still watched. They do seem to forget Ari is a lawyer, and he had them scrambling for words.

This is where Ari is at his best- he calmly corrals them in. I am glad he has all sides of an issue on. There are times I just personally cannot listen especially after a day of dealing with anti-vaxers who are forced to get a vaccination.

😂😂😂Can only imagine what you must endure, at times. We appreciate you, Peter. You cover well.

We all have to deal with people like that. I used to give them empathy when the vaccine came out- now, each falsehood that comes out of their mouth, I calmly cut them off with facts and made up a sheet of facts with references for them to peruse.

I hope so, too, Peter, but BOY, how this DOJ frustrates me!

I KNOW, and had very high hopes that he would go in and lower the boom, especially since he had assisted in the proceedings, where the grand jury had indicted the two older kids! HA! This entire thing just reeks of sumthin’, I’m not yet sure.

I was thinking that too Peter- that I hope Ari does take Bragg on! I don't get how he let those 2 prosecutors resign and seems to be letting this drop. It's great fodder for trump and co. to say it's another hoax or fake news and for his supporters to say- well he hasn't been indicted for anything yet ever so....

I’m waiting for Ari to do one of his newsletters on Bragg and I will post he needs to have him on. I also would like to know what was promised to Bragg to potentially drop it. Secret offshore bank account?

Just curious: If you regularly "mute guests like Navarro," why watch The Beat at all?

Expand full comment

Fair question- The majority of his guests are not trumpers. When they go off on hyper drive with their lies and falsehoods, I do not need to listen. I only ever had to touch a hot frying pan once as a child never to touch it again. Same with listening to a trumper. If you read my comments, you will see I applaud Ari having them on.

But that is the fun part- to watch how Ari stops them in their tracks.

Love the "hot frying pan" analogy. And, yes, I've noticed that you applaud Ari having them on his show. Sometimes - not kidding - I am so overwhelmed and so overdone with hearing DJT bullstuff that I look to see what Kate Middleton wore today, what Ina Garten's latest brunch recipe is, or what Wanderlust (one of my favorite getaway blogs) has to say about the B&B's in Botswana. Sometimes, the mess Donald Trump has created for our country is just too much.

Mess for sure- thank goodness we have journalists like Ari that exposes the Trump Cancer.

Yes, the government has to use what Peter Navarro says on tape in an interview.. it’s out there and so is he.. accountabilty!!!!!!!

Ari, I think The Committee was obligated to use the available evidence in your two incisive interviews as it helped their mission to find the truth. If Navarro is smart he will cooperate and he should definitely stop talking. But he was scheduled to be a guest on your show yesterday so I don’t know if he really gets it.

Seems like he’s his own worst enemy. Congratulations on another journalistic achievement that has contributed to achieving justice. And an early wish for a Happy Birthday tomorrow. I hope you will find many small moments of joy as you celebrate the person you are, and that those moments will build memories you can visit in the future to remind yourself how good life is even in dark times. 👍:)

If no one is above the law, let it start to look and feel like that, or just stop saying it. So obvious there are some who are not being held accountable for their actions on or before Jan. 6, 2021, and If we are not careful It can happen again. Yes!!!! You and your staff have done an amazing job in getting this information out to the public. Now if only AG Garland would listen to the Jan.6 Committee, and do something to hold these criminals accountable. I fear these arrogant jerks speak out because they know they are going to get away with their crimes. Unless they are arrested and bail denied, there is no reason for them to cooperate. SO FRUSTRATING!!!!😣

Thanks Ari, great job on all you do!!! On another note, Happy Birthday, have a blessed day tomorrow and may your day be filled with happiness and joy!!!🙏😊🎤🎼🎹

I don't know that Garland and the DOJ aren't doing anything. It may be that there just isn't any leaks. And that's a good thing. At least that's my hope. It is quite frustrating to feel like justice is not being served. I'll join you in saying Happy Birthday weekend to Ari!! Hoping you also have a good weekend!

Hi, Calender Grl, I’m sure you’re right. I don’t know if it’s permissions afforded the MAGA crowd (president and all), or the seemingly subdued pursuit for justice. It appears our democracy is hanging by a thread, that our constitution is buckling, trying to hold it up, until we can bring it back into balance. On the other hand, I recognize that for this group, EVERY “i“ must be dotted, EVERY “t” crossed—so, it takes time. I just need more animation.😂. Happy weekend to you, also.

Expand full comment

You're absolutely right, our democracy is hanging by a thread and we really need to keep this in mind as the next election approaches. When handling what could be the largest criminal investigation in America (with some very high up people), you most definitely have to have your Is dotted and Ts crossed. No opportunity for misses. It's not an easy or quick process as I'd hope it to be.

Expand full comment

Yes, impossible to be a rapid fix, because all three branches are involved. Now, we have to deal with Ginni. You never thought anything could get worse than Thomas’ confirmation hearings, Bush v Gore and Kavanaugh. Here we are-full circle, back to Thomas. EVERY, EVERY, EVERYTHING is political: Medical issues (COVID); the weather (Climate Change); just plain WORDS (Gay, Progressive, Woman). But they are mute on housing, student loans, drug prices, etc. It’s a spinning wheel.

Hi C.G. and Diva😀 I was thinking that because AG Garland is a soft spoken man and probably is very cautious with every case. So let's hope he is just taking his time. You all have a good weekend!!!🙏

First, I thoroughly enjoy and learn from you here and during your TV show.

Navarro has admitted guilt and should be slapped in prison. As an aside, General Flynn should join him.

Absolutely It would be great if we could see some indictments before summer..why is the DOJ taking so long to get this bs processed? Ari keep doing the wonderful investigative work that makes you so interesting to listen to 👏👏👏

Expand full comment

The DOJ put in a request to hire hundreds of attorneys to research all these documents.

I'm guessing they have less than one year presumably if the GOP win majorities in both houses, to complete the research and issue indictments and a grand jury can be convened.

Otherwise we know the commitee in all likelihood will be dismantled and we may never have closure.
