The closest I heard were those with torches in Charlottesville screaming "Jews will not replace us". I am 91 and saw and heard these things (as well as book banning and then book burning) when lived in the Free City of Danzig when I was an 8-year-old in 1938. It is beyond sad that at the end of my life I have to watch history repeat itself and especially do so in the land of what was a true democracy.

Thanks Ari for being an articulate journalistic voice in these unsettling times. America needs more people like you speaking out in defense of our evolving democracy and things like equality for all, justice, and frankly, a more humane way for us all to get along together. Sadly, what we've got is a toxic stew of lies, ignorance, institutionalized racism, greed, guns, "god", and a dangerously selective version of history that denies the atrocities committed in the western hemisphere from the day Columbus and his men landed here ( Manifest Destiny, colonialism, western expansion was the original great replacement in the Americas), but who needs books, facts, critical thinking when you've got propaganda and conspiracy theories.

Hi Ari, Happy Monday and thanks for shedding light on America’s perpetual sin: white supremacy and gun violence. A sin that seem to be virtually impossible to purge out of this country. Our country that started with a big fat lie to certain people: “all men are created equal.” All men are created equal except when you are Black, Jew, Asian, Latinax, LGBTQ, woman etc. When I saw the horrible news of the Buffalo NY shooting, I had every emotion: sad, anger, heartbroken…I cried too. These are 10 people that will never return to their families… the families that they told that they are going to pick up a few things from the grocery store. One of the victims’s son stated that he doesn’t know how to tell his father what happened to his mother and was crying uncontrollably.

Each time that I set my foot out the door I wonder, “what’s going to happen today?” One cannot live in fear…I will not live in fear. Because of the frequency of these terrible events, one cannot help it but think that way😞

I will never ever understand why someone will devote their time to assimilate the theories of hate and act on it such a viscous way. What is so wrong being Black, Jew, Latinax, Asian, LGBTQ or any other race than is not white? What is so wrong with immigrants?

When you think that you have seen it all, more catastrophic atrocities happens. So the question that I have is: when is the “sermon on the Great Replacement Theory” from Tucker Carlson and Fox News aka Fake News aka Fascists News going to be shut down? When does the freedom of speech and First Amendment have limit? When does this type of mass shooting, this gun violence stop?

Unfortunately, one cannot teach a brainwashed, radicalized white supremacist how to love other people that are not white, other people that are Jews etc. Having love and a kind heart comes within.

Till we Americans are all willing to combat white supremacy and gun violence/ mass shooting for good, the cycle will be on repeat.

I will never ever accept hate and I completely denounce white supremacy.

Ari, thanks for the special reporting on white supremacy and continue to shine light on the perpetual and viscous cycle of hate in America.

This theory is older than me Ari. (75) I grew up in Ga and heard stories of how we should protect ”us while folks" at all cost. I have never subscribed nor practice this ”CRT" hatred. I am.proud to say I have marched, handbailled for all Americans equal rights. I've seen these practices voter suppression, to wages etc before. We united with many groups all of us young. Hopefully the young generation will take up this fight.

"The Great Replacement Theory", is just another right wing distraction from reality. All this misinformation is presented as fact to bait their base to incite violence. They know exactly what they are doing, and simply couldn't care less, as long as they ( the Republican party) take control. It's heartbreaking how these mass shootings are so normalized and we move on to the the next tragedy.

I try to avoid conversations with people that don't see things like I do politically. I tried a few years ago, and it didn't end well.

Thanks Ari !!!🙏

I do have “friends” and a couple of family members who do know how to push my buttons. They do not says the words Replacement Theory, but they express anti immigrant sentiments and racial/ethnic slurs. I used to keep my mouth shut so as to keep peace during the Trump years. About a year ago I stopped doing that. Now I question the source of their proclamations. Recently, visiting in NY, a friend was outraged that “illegal immigrants could now be police officers in California.” When asked, she thought she heard it on CNN ( this is a Fox News watcher). I’m a news junkie and I told her I had not heard or read that. Then I searched for California laws/illegal immigrants/ police officers. I found a Bill that had passed the Ca. House that would allow LEGAL immigrants with Green Cards or work Visa’s to apply to become a police officer. I let her read it on my phone. All I got was an “oh.” This is one example of what I’ve been doing when anyone tells me something I know or think I know is not true. It’s a relief really not to let myself be intimidated. I’m not confrontational but I can be very assertive. I agree this is not the time to remain silent. I’ve encouraged all my like minded friends to speak out in these situations. Challenging sources and fact checking is not hard. We really are in dangerous times. (Loved the Fallback segment on Friday.)

Ari. The Great Replacement, also know as the Replacement theory, is a white nationalist far-right conspiracy theory, disseminated by French author Renaud Camus. It fuels extremists and shooters. To me the theory can be used by many as a poison from the far right. It may consist by wealthy White nationalist to enter the mainstream that fuel racist violence. Example: The supermarket shooting that killed 10 people in Buffalo, New York a week ago. Most of the victims were Black. There was no mistake of the intent of the shooter, however the conspiracy theory says there was a plot to diminish the influence of White people. But the shooting highlights

replacement theory. Remember the White nationalist March at Charlottesville, VA. that turn deadly in 2017 chant, "You will not replace us!" and "Jews will not replace us" ? Also this theory appears to discourage Black people from voting, replacing Black workers at the polls waiting long hours to vote hoping to discouraged them., and so forth. I believe people like Margjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gertz along with Tucker Carlson are good examples of those who are passing along this theory. They always appear to tryt and explain Tucker Carlson connection to the "great replacement " theory . Great work Ari, keep it coming. Take care, God bless.

I think Replacement Theory is spreading like a racist viral infection because it requires no thinking or problem solving skills. For me a bigger question is why we never learn from history. I live in a blue bubble is a terrifying red state and I sometimes feel afraid to go to synagogue and I can’t imagine I am alone. I agree it is a harder task to learn the truth and demand real evidence but all of our kids deserve nothing less. How difficult this must be for you Ari to report on and be objective. Well done you.

I am a Gulf War veteran. I have served my community for years helping other vets, especially disabled veterans. I have served as Vice Char of my county Vetetans Council, and have served as a Service Officer, and as state disabled veterans representative.

I had to leave this all behind. When post commanders and their officers of veteran orgs (I.e. American Legion, VFW, etc.) started referring to then President Obama as the “N” word, and former Secretary of State Clinton as the “C” word, I knew my days were numbered.

It was as if after the 2016 general election, the doors opened up and everyone came out of their closets. It literally shocked me, and made me feel I’ll that brothers in arms could speak this way after having taken an oath.

Recently I was dragged into a conversation where “replacement theory” was being discussed. I was asked how I feel about it. My answer was a question: “Where are you getting your data from. All anyone could say was the repeated dribble of Tucker and the like.

I just don’t understand how veterans especially, get caught in this trap of misinformation. How do you take an oath, and then pick and choose what you’ll support. We should be supporting the constitution. Not hair brained conspiracy theories.

To all the veterans out there falling for this, I say, remember your oath and do what all veterans are good at: when we see something broken, a veteran’s first inclination is to FIX it.

For those whom get all their news from FOX, I say, try to find neutral sources like WP, San Jose Mercury News, BBC, and NPR. These are a good start. Listening to an outlet that only doubles down on conspiracy theories, will only rot the brain.

Hi Ari, it is amazing how thing appear to change but still remain the same, the spouting of the racist agenda, it is so full of lies and hate, the US has to change it course if not you will implode from within, with so much anger and hate.

People on Fox need to change they rhetoric, l do not see that happening until they themselves experience what people of color experience almost everyday of they lives in the USA.

The real people that lived and owned the land of the United States are the indigenous people of your land. If they treated them so badly, they will treat all people of color that way too no honor no respect, no love and kindness in they hearts.

Forgetting that they grandparents and parents are all immigrants.

The color of a man skin does not make him a good person, it is what is in his heart.

Replacement Theory is so full of fair and hate. We as one people have to stop this. We need to stand together and fight this, the battle is not easy but we need to win it if not Domocracy will die in the United States, right now the bad guys are winning. I hope this changes and soon.

Great article, thank you, enjoy your eveing Ari🙏

I am wondering what our Native American population thinks of Replacement Theory. It happened to them when our forefathers came to this country. They were killed and pushed out of their lands and forced to live in places like the Black Hills and on reservations. The sick person that killed 10 Black people in a grocery store should never come out of jail, ever. Those 10 people had family and friends who are now suffering through this heart breaking loss. People need to quit listening to the likes of Carlson or any other Fox news hosts who come up with this and other lies. I consider most of us to be immigrants no matter when our ancestors came to this country. Native Americans were here first. It was their land..

I have a brother who believes in Replacement Theory. There are 13 children in my family - some Democrats and some Republicans - but, he's the only Trump supporter, the only Fox News addict, and the only one who can quote - and justify - every crazy theory out there. Other siblings have told me they now skip any family gathering if the crazy brother is going to be there because no one can talk to him. And, he never shuts up about this stuff; it seems to be the only conversation he can have. It's like I imagine it would be trying to talk to Mike Lindell, and what concerns me is the depth and conviction with which he believes what he's saying. It's scary.

The Republicans have no forward thinking strategy so they are trying to hold everybody back with them and I believe they would like to turn the clock back. They are unable and unwilling to do the work necessary to unite and move the country forward. They are the party of lazy.

Tuckims, will do anything for ratings and cash. He is nothing but a greedy POS that will never be held responsible by fox or anyone else. That’s the part I don’t understand. He should be sued by the families of the people that guy shot, because he’s directly responsible for the guy doing what he did.

He’s the worse one out of all

I have heard others speak of Replacement Theory, but when asked how does it work they are hard pressed to give an example. The sad thing is Carlson throws out BS and people accepted it as true without getting any facts. This is another example of how many people let others do the thinking for them. These people who are so easily lead are the ones who have forgotten any of the history lessons they learned in school, or they would be well aware of the importance of immigrants in keeping the country alive and vibrant, rather than stagnant. Hopefully, whenever encountering an individual proclaiming the Replacement Theory we will challenge them to explain and give examples. Maybe if they are forced to think, they will see how stupid the theory is.
