I would love if dead and company could open the edges a bit and write new material continuing the grace and arc of the original band forward in time, because this would honor Jerry and the others still living. Our older siblings are not always our best friends, but they are integral to building the character of who we become. I'm very thankful you have your brother. Keep on keeping on Ari.

I regretfully passed up a road trip the summer of 95 to see them and they would have been my first too. I thought Jerry came back to me years later when watching the musical Joeseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat—“Go Go Jo”.
The spirit of Jerry visited me again on the way to the airport after leaving my aunt at a hospice. It was a dead song that I haven’t quite placed. Something about seeing past the trees in the forest. At the time I just accepted the encouragement to not get overwhelmed with grief or guilt death of a loved one can bring and remember the roots of the trees while trying to navigate my way. It’s a feeling of love or vibration for me nothing seen or heard.
My best live show was The Jackson Five’s last tour together…I saw them in Providence Civic Center and it was my dream to see them all perform together.. it was amazing and they were all so very talented ♥️
I am an 85 yr old lady which means rock n roll, jitterbig and ELVIS!! I attended 2 of his concerts and it was mind blowing. Before he came on stage Sprach Zarathustra was playing and the audience was going wild and air was electric, then when he came on stage he started with CC Rider which almost raised the roof. He had so much charisma and his performance was absolutely magic. To me he was the greatest singer of all time. By the way Ari I love your program and watch every night. Stay safe.
I’m a full-time private music teacher. It took me years to become one. Along the way, I found myself traveling a lot in northern California with a ukulele. I arranged Dead songs onto its four closely packed strings and learned how to trust my ear. The limitations of the instrument melted away as I met the songs, one song after another, meeting them strangely and freshly wild, without a guitar in sight. By the time I got in front of a piano again Jerry had taught me everything I needed to know. That’s one story.
First Concert was - Hershey Park Arena - the Allman Brothers - 1975. It was so easy back in that time to move from your seat to the floor & back! Dicky Betz was phenomenal that night. I was a huge fan of his so I was thrilled!
My first show was at IU in 1978 in the Snake Pit on Halloween. The Heads were in costume, so that was fun, but Jerry was “on one” and couldn’t seem to track... the crowd became disgruntled over the long spaces between songs and Jerry shouted “Manyana” a couple of times. Nevertheless, I saw them many times over the years including the night before their last show at Soldier Field where we did epic waves around the stadium. I’ve also seen and enjoyed Dead and company. At 68, my signature style is tie dye.

Best live show, I’ve got 2 for very different reasons. One is Tina Turner’s farewell tour. Not only did she totally take command of the stage, she rocked the arena. And her opening act was Joe Cocker (“You Can Leave Your Hat On”). He was an amazing performer. Left the concert exhausted! Second one was Andrea Bocelli. A totally different vibe, almost a religious experience. Such an amazing God given voice. Going to see him again in June. Can’t wait.
I have had the pleasure of witnessing many great Live concerts. But one concert stands out— Santana.
It was one summer night in Virginia around 2000.
What made this concert so special to me — it was raining cats and dogs and I didn’t give a damn because I was experiencing one of the best outdoor performances, ever.
It was as if the rain was sent to unmask, set us free to truly experience Santana’s brilliance.
Baby, Santana was on 🔥!
I felt every music riff in my bones that night.
Santana had everyone on their feet rocking out in the middle of a rainstorm.
We didn’t care that we were soaking wet. Nothing mattered that night but his music— unfiltered.
And when he played Black Magic Woman, we ALL lost it. The crowd went ballistic!
What an evening— a magical, riveting, spiritual, soul-stirring, organic experience.

As an artist and a songwriter and huge music lover, I’m always searching for inspiration and ways to stay inspired. Live music has always been a great avenue to reconnect to the spirit of the music, and get back on track with my own creative flow, and of course concerts are just so much fun! Simply the energy of everyone coming together for music. I have not seen the Dead live yet, but I am a fan, and hope to catch The Dead And Company Tour on the road now, with John Mayer this summer. I have an older sister that introduced me to the Beatles and some other music, but I've never really been the type of person who goes to concerts. I went to a Weird Al concert once. I have always listened to rap music even though it's hypocritical because it's extremely misogynistic, but I like the beat. Like you point out on the show, there's other cultural significance in the music. I just moved to Kansas City so I've been listening to Tech N9ne because it was music that helped me through a really difficult situation. Nina and a lot of the other Midwest rappers tend to embody what was good about the Midwest. Things like going your own way and deciding to make a lot less money just because they didn't want to be controlled by the industry, being humble and fiercely loyal, and that your family becomes whoever you can trust and you keep those people close and you always have their back.
Unfortunately I’ve never seen them live, however I’m a huge Deadhead! “Casey Jones” and “Box of Rain” are just two of my favorite songs, but they are all so good.
