What is this?
This is just an email newsletter — the best “one-stop shop” to get my writing, updates, voice notes and to keep up with me directly. (I also respond to readers here, not on social media.)
My work focuses on news, law and culture. I try to prioritize clarity, so things make sense. I draw on evidence — the reliable material informing what we can prove and know. And my newsletter’s basic premise is that truth, democracy and culture matter.
“Me and you…”
For this newsletter, I email you my original writing. That includes cultural and musical thoughts, and sometimes more random and personal items, (like dispatches and pictures from trips, concerts and life).
Some readers have told me this newsletter format is worthwhile, and even special, because it enables me and you to connect directly (an Outkast lyric). There’s no “social media” filter (let alone Elon Musk distorting political speech). No external corporate agenda. And no Internet “clickbait” incentives, where some push outrage or misinformation to get more clicks. We don’t do that here, and don’t need to.
It’s just me, Ari, writing for people who have chosen to be readers. Maybe that will include you. It’s old school: I send you the emails; you can write back, I reply to some of the comments — definitely more here than on any social media site. (I write each piece, with editing by Calder McHugh.) It’s usually no more than two emails a month.

If you’ve never tried this before, you may understandably ask how this works. It is my email list to reach readers. It’s private. You are not publicly endorsing any “larger project,” or making a commitment. If you submit your email address and click subscribe, then I email you my writing. You can bail anytime. That’s it. (Here are past posts.) My new pieces will hit your inbox, like any other email.
