Is Your Kids’ Music Any Good?
Most people don’t love the exact same music as their parents. Many parents feel their generation’s music is somehow better than the new stuff. It’s a common refrain that ‘new art lacks some artistic quality compared to the old.’ Growing up, my Dad and I repeatedly debated hip hop along those lines.
Then on the other hand, there’s that thrill when someone shares a great new song with you. It becomes a point of connection. That brings us to a theme in a great verse from Donald Glover/Childish Gambino — known for many things, including his political video “This is America” — on Chance the Rapper’s 2013 project Acid Rap.
Glover does a kind of meta commentary in this verse, with classic rap bravado.
He says on this song, this might be your Favorite Song, which is also the name of the song (listen here).
